In Realities Five, contrary to types of realism that feature a particular light source, the light comes from within the form of the painting itself additionally perspective is avoided giving the viewer an unfixed position. It celebrates some of the things that can happen in painting and is one of several responses to the complex visual stimulus of Roman painting in situ. It is a further abstraction that includes suggestions of false doors and hints of apertures and apotropaic signs that are recurring themes.
