Reasons for War

By Corrie Chiswell 2018
Oil on Canvas ‘Reasons for War 1’ is the first in a series of paintings that addresses the nature of good and evil. The figure in this painting appears as a shining light, perhaps the essence of purity, but she begins to burn and raises her hands in a stance of supplication: an angel dipping it’s hands into the oily darkness of the underworld. The work acknowledges oil as a leading cause of war but that it can only become such in the hands of mankind.
