Residency interaction project in Santa Barbara, California, USA. Grass seed heads (wild barley) collected from the area are presented on the wall. Associations include arrows, flight, the cosmos, starlight, Native American peoples, seed dispersal, the seasons. There is a link here to the Chumash Tribe who have lived in the Santa Barbara area for several hundred years who also practiced observation of the stars as part of their calendar. The wild barley seed heads or foxtails are barbed and like arrows, are difficult to withdraw once attached. They are dispersed by the wind or by biting into other creatures or clothing linking them further to the arrow.
