Replacement Part

By  Russell Jakubowski 2018 - 2019

Russell Jakubowski

When I designed this piece I was hoping it would capture any available light. I wanted the the work to look radiant, overstuffed with energy. In fact it looks better than I imagined, almost toxically bright. This helps the object to look incongruous, out of context, just out of it’s box. It’s circular shape points to the possibility that it might rotate and the ascending and descending profiles allude to machine gearing. There are two black rings which I added to suggest registration marks - a user might be instructed to “align the two rings with the socket and push gently into place”. I enjoy thinking about where it might be used and what it might do. It's transformative and miraculous effect as a replacement part, and the changes that might occur as a result of using it. This work is for sale. Enquiries - The Woldt Gallery, London.
