The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts Young Associate group put together an open call, series of group discussions and exhibition as a response to the lack of audio collection within the SCVA. In response to the building and it’s history, each artist and group responded to the environment using sound - whether that be ambient, spoken word or live experimentation. For this particular project I focused on the domestic aspect of a collection once residing in a home. Working in collaboration with the security and maintenance teams within the SCVA I recorded people carrying out everyday tasks as if in their home - from making cups of tea, to hoovering.
The private everyday labours, otherwise ignored are now in the permanent foreground.
