Response to Freud's Prosthesis

By Kathleen Fox 2010

Kathleen Fox

A series of 3D objects that form part of the installation The Spaces of the Unconscious at the Freud Museum, London. Freud struggled with oral cancer for the last 15 years of his life and I was interested in his interior landscape of pain which included 30 operations and which was so at odds with the professional man of science he presented to the world. The prosthesis itself is a disturbing yet strangely beautiful object.
