The Reverend Kirby was a 19th century country parson and amateur naturalist who collected thousands of moths and butterflies. He could often be seen striding around his parish in a frock coat with huge pockets and a tall hat which he had lined with cork so that he could safely pin out the specimens he caught. There are 20 different species of rustic moth found in Britain.
