River Island Spire.

By Tim Pugh 2026

River Island Spire is a photograph of a river stone installation created during my stay as artist in residence at the Llano Land Art Festival in Llano,Texas in March 2026.The artwork was created on a really hot day on a river island in the middle of the River Llano using locally found granite and limestone rocks littered across the exposed riverbed. The installation is like a giant three dimensional jigsaw puzzle where each istone is assessed for size before being slotted into shape.I wanted to create a prominent rivermark spire  standing out amidst the flat plain as a semi permanent feature before the next floods arrived and knocked it down ,reassembling it back into the landscape.
