RiverMap

By  Valerie Coffin Price 2012 - 2013
During 2013 I began recording the impact of the River landscape on our lives, with other Walking the Land artists, focusing on the River Frome and it’s tributaries on their journey through the Cotswolds, down into the River Severn. The project was designed to stimulate debate and collect ideas about what is valued in the local landscape, looking at the changing landscape in the Stroud Valleys supported by the Cotswold Conservation Board and Stroud Nature. A series of walks, seminars and exhibitions were used to help inform the debate about landscape use with various conservation bodies, highlighting the use of Landscape Character Assessment (the 'Settled Valley Landscape Type') by using the arts to stimulate discussion and collect peoples views, memories and ideas in the face of inevitable future changes to the landscape. This work ran parallel to walking research along the River Taff in south Wales (see The River Next Door project).
