A boxed form using a variety of images and materials following Dada principles in construction, allow the forms to dictate the narrative. Once a narrative evolved, the artist then adds additions to the piece to hone the completed form. This work re-evaluates the past and the obscured contribution of slavery to the industrial age, and subsequently the industrial and post-industrial age as forms of capital, used and traded without any recompense to future family members.
Mixed media assemblage: Handmade paper by the artist made with newspaper, shredded documents, plaster, pva and quantock earth; zinc etching print of layered portraits of American ex-slaves in blood burgundy and green ink; zinc etching of trees in rust orange; red embroidery thread of underground railway map recording movement of escaped slaves; black wire and white wire hands entwined; wooden box frame painted with chalk white paint | 2025
