'Ueberdachtes Schaf’ (English: Sheep with roof).
Materials: black and white sheep skins, wood, zinc sheet. Location: Primary School, Leogang, Austria.
The design for the artwork came from a week-long workshop with the school children in rural Austria.
We started with a field trip to the mountains, picking up on such features as huts, barns and farm animals. On the following day, two of the children (who were from farming families) brought in bags of sheep fleeces. And that helped set the scene for the design workshop. We spent the week making models.
I returned at a later date to help complete the work. The wooden hut had been made by a local carpenter, which the children and myself then clad in sheep skins over a week in the school grounds.
As planned, it was then installed in the mountains.
