“Scratched Boulder “.

The tideline artwork was created at South Beach in Whitehaven,West Cumbria in May 2023.The beach is full of smooth iron ore,brick and coal pebble deposits left over as a legacy from a old coal mine that used to be located next to the beach. I used these pebble pigments to scratch onto a segmented boulder surface leaving a chalk like colourful texture.The sediment was then rubbed into the surfaces to ensure adherence and I carefully chosen the vivid colours to contrast against each other .The artwork took a few hours to create but as usual,the intense rubbing motion erased my fingerprints!
