Separation (the roots from a mother’s tree)

“Separation (the roots from a mother’s tree)” the choice of materials in the work are all found, donated or recycled. It began when a friend gave me a cherry tree root and branch planted by her mother. It refers to the space made between the physical objects but also implies the emotional separation of  people under different circumstances. The work also considers the human impact on our environment through a domestic lens via the combination of manmade and natural materials.
The layering and stacking techniques creates a sense of precariousness and fragility with references to the strata found in the horizontal layers of rock, soil, or sediment.

Materials: cherry tree root and branch, egg profile packaging foam, cardboard and thermal wallpaper are all found or recycled.
