Dimensions
162cm x 47cm x 32cm

Captain’s cabinet was commissioned by b-side festival 2016. The installation was set in the Bat House in Chiswell community garden on Portland, Dorset. It tells the stories of two famous shipwrecks on Portland using fluorescing liquids, cast objects printed images and gathered objects. One shelf in the cabinet is dedicated to the ‘The Royal Adelaide’, another to the ‘The Earl of Abergavenny’. The bottom shelf is a visual story based on divers’ accounts of the wreck sites. A recording of two divers recounting their experiences of diving the shipwrecks accompanies the installation. Three View-masters show supporting visuals to the stories told in the cupboard and on the recording. The Captain’s Cabinet is part museum, part cabinet of curiosity and part memorial.
