Seven thousand feet / Liverpool conference

'To pee or not to pee' artworks and photo by Christine Wilcox-Baker

Following on from the success of the project at the Manchester Science Festival in October 2018 Diabetes UK invited us to take some of the work to their professional conference. This took place from 6 – 8th March at the Liverpool Arena and Conference Centre. The conference was attended by over 3,000 professional health sector delegates and our exhibit proved to be a huge attraction. Surrounded by some of leading pharmaceutical company stands we really stood out. Visitors were intrigued by the work and very excited by it. Comments ranged from “thank you so much for doing this – it really makes it real” to “this is the best thing in the exhibition” and “wow this is really innovative, moving and tells the real story”. We’ve had lots of interest in further using some of the work and using images in presentations and reports so the legacy continues. As part of the project we were awarded a grant by the Physiological Society for a specific piece of work. We created the ‘Fascinating Family’ as an interactive engagement tool. These will be used by NHS supported organisation ‘Research for the Future’ to assist with their ‘Help BEAT Diabetes’ campaign. Concept Christine Wilcox-Baker, illustration Fabia Fowler.
