Skin Metamorphosis

Skin Metamorphosis represents the changes a woman’s body undergoes in ageing. This mixed media piece is made out of leather, ink, glue and latex. It is molded into a suspended organ viewed all around. It reminds of a piece of fresh meat at the butches hanging in the shop ready to be sold, exposed to its core, lifeless, judged. Despite this negative connotation, every fold is arranged to symbolize the curves women experience and the experiences they endure. The Italian actress Anna Magnani once said “Don’t retouch my wrinkles, it took me so long to earn them”. This piece is a portrait of every ageing woman.
