Soyer's Poor Soup

By  Henny Burnett 2005

Martin Urmson

The recipe for Soyer's Poor Soup is printed and sewn into thinly cast paper and muslin bowls, backlit by a light box. Eating implements are cast in wax. Soyer's Poor Soup was a commission for the exhibition Open Desk After School held at The Ragged School Museum in London. The soup recipe was invented by Alexis Soyer for the Irish famine but was also feed to children at Dr Barnardo's Ragged school; coming from Dublin Dr Barnardo would have know about Soyer's poor soup kitchens.
