Sparring Partners

The materials in this work are salvaged from the rural landscape and the home. The resulting forms contrast and spar, one being weighted to the ground, partially packed with stone and brick, whilst the other is potentially mobile, balancing on three legs. Fencing wire and salvaged steel bind and contain old duvets, pillows and sheets. This work is concerned with the materiality of left-overs and discarded objects as well as with deep time, human time and the ageing process. The scale relates to human scale, as the fabric forms suggest both tree limbs and human body parts. The scarring of trees with wire fencing and their subsequent resilience is linked to a parallel interest in hybrid forms, evolution and perceived absurdity of the unfamiliar.
