Work created with French knitting made by patients and staff during joie de faire (the making of stuff) project 2006-07, developed for the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award.
The Award consisted of an artist residency at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, Feto-maternal department. The outcome was three commissions for Radcliffe Hospital’s collection and Paintings in Hospitals loan collection and a solo exhibition at Menier Chocolate Factory gallery in London.

For three months Françoise Dupré visited the Feto-Maternal Medicine Department and through the use of spool knitting engaged with patients and staff. Miles of spool knitting tubes were assembled by the artist to create three artworks: Flowers, Spiral and Cells.
Flowers is part of Paintings in Hospitals Loan Collection. Spiral and Cells are permanently on show in the Feto-Maternal Department.
The residency was the subject of a symposium: joie de faire, held at Birmingham City University, School of Art in 2007. A publication containing the transcript of the symposium and information about the residency was published by Article Press (ISBN: 978-1-873352-69-4, ISBN: 1-873552-69-7)
