This art work was made for the Alfred East Garden and is based broadly on the idea of a picnic. Plastic cutlery is placed in the ground, suggesting sitting on the grass. In position it is digging in, claiming its own little spot, tucking into the earth, suggesting enjoying the outdoors and the sustenance, foods from the earth. Each artwork is a variation, bringing out different aspects of plastic cutlery and the garden. This work shows the cutlery positioned parallel to each other at a slight angle, all moving in the same direction. It has an abstract airy feel. The cutlery appears as a set of white lines contrasted by the swell of the spoon, the thinness of the knife emphasizing small variations and the physical design of cutlery. From the side or close up the white lines appear detached from the grass, more abstract, perhaps a little shower of water, refreshing, like a picnic, a splash in the grass and linking to the fountain beyond.
