Standing in the rain (with you)
Dimensions
30cm x 30cm
Blue brush strokes carry the meaning of rain, water, emotion and at the same time, people. People standing together in times of difficulty. The work embodies the spirit of solidarity and compassion. The difficulty of standing with someone in the rain. The title takes it's name from a piece of writing by Buddhist peace builder, poet and philosopher Dr Daisaku Ikeda where he says:
“Someone battling destiny feels like there is a storm is raging through their heart. When we encounter people in such a state, we should stand with them in the rain, become sopping wet with them, and work with them to find a way out of the storm. In the end, that's probably all another person can do.”
It is a work born from my experience of being alongside my partner through 7.5 years of cancer treatment until he passed in 2025.
