Strange Fruit

Assemblage made from found materials comprising: galvanised and painted metal components, plaited pink rope, and bread board.
The title of this piece has an ironical connotation and borrows from the song recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939 and covered by a number of other performers.
The words are from the poem of the same name by Abel Meeropol which confronted the subject of racism in America and in particular, two brutal, racially motivated lynchings.
Throughout my career, in tandem with my two dimensional work, I have made numerous constructions and assemblages, some wall hung and others free standing, as in this example.
