Test Card is made through a process of redaction, extraction, and layering rather than adding image. De-collage. Made on found object and wood collected from the streets, the work comes about through playing with magazines layout from a bygone print era. I take the pages apart to expose the structure of the magazine, the central ‘gutter’, the holes from the staples, the bleeds are revealed, along with CYMK registration margins and layouts. I cut away images, captions, page numbers or the body of text to obscure, redact, and make new random connections. What happens when we see the captions without the image? Or the image without the caption? These collages layer together highly specific environments; tundra, swamp, marsh or wetland together with images of Nazca Lines in Peru, ancient prehistoric rock shelter in Brazil. They are a yearning for these natural and precious places and are about the dependant and destructive interplay between human activity and natural environment.
