The Bean Pod - In the Pea Garden with Dame Pharma

By  Tumim Prendergast 2013 - 2014

Tumim & Prendergast

These photographs represent the start of things to come. These are actual dolls, made from stitch, with hand crafted pods (here a giant broad bean) in related settings. The "Borrowers" aspect to these new works is intentional - they are about scale, family dynamics, our hopes and fears - and contain a strong dash of dark humour. References are Jonathan Swift (Gulliver's Travels) and Grimm Fairy Tales - the edition by Philip Pullman specifically. There is also going to be a strong element of theatre of the absurd/ Pantomime to this new work - which is soon to be staged in an actual theatre.
