The Equilibrists

The Equilibrists of the film are patient and surprising exemplars of the lessons to be learnt from scrutinising the elementary principles of physics. By revisiting the basic laws that relate to the weight of bodies and centre of gravity we are reminded of the poise and patience, delicacy and balance essential for stability. The dimensional, flat diagram and filmed action, strike an uncanny balance between the informational and the absurd. In her playful film she captures a pleasure of curiosity in a choreographed montage intercut with diagrammatic instructions that echo a Victorian era, that saw the emergence of both film and participatory experiments.

The work is accompanied by a 32 page publication which plays with a balance of stills and quotes, translating the film to the printed page.
