Victoria Rance made The Fates during Covid in 2020. She made the three dolls and baby before getting the virus. She then began animating with the dolls while in bed ill. After recovery, back in the studio, Rance photographed the dolls to make this short animation of the creatures finding a small human and deciding its fate. In the installation made for In Real Life at Cable Depot The Fates are given an offering of ginko leaves. Fossils of leaves of Ginko Bilbao have been found dating 270 million years. Six trees were among the few living things to survive the atomic bomb at Hiroshima. The sound track was composed by the artist’s son Cole Pemberton.
