The Human Limpet Project (at Skaill farm)

2022
Work emerging from a week long residency at Skaill Farm archaeological dig on the the island of Rousay, Orkney. Spending this time with archaeologists excavating a Viking farm followed on from two previous visits to the site in 2021 and 2018. Mounds of limpet and other shells were formed by the Viking farmers as they used the limpets for fishing bait almost 1000 years ago. This shell installation within the standing remains of the farm's dairy moved as the wind blew, creating a beautiful tinkling sound which engaged both the archaeologists and passing visitors.
