Artist book, Erewash Museum, Ilkeston – artist residency
The Odour of Tilchestune is an artist book developed during a residency at Erewash Museum, exploring Ilkeston’s industrial heritage and lived histories. Constructed with handmade paper, coal, lace, and a steel spine, the book brings together materials associated with labour, domestic life, and care. Drawing on local narratives and material traces, the work reflects on how industry shapes bodies, communities, and memory. The book acts as both archive and intimate object, foregrounding touch, fragility, and material presence as ways of engaging with place.
