THE OLD BARGE JETTY ON THE HUMBER

By  Phil Whiting 1992

Before travelling the world to paint the aftermath of war and genocide I focused on painting the post-industrial hinterland of Cornwall and the North of England. I am delighted that alongside two of my post-conflict works the large oil painting ‘The Old Barge Jetty on the Humber’ has been selected for the important exhibition ‘Aftermath’ to be held at the OPO ARTSPACE Scarborough from 15th to 31st May. I painted it in 1992 to pay homage to where I grew up during the 1950/60s. Indeed, it was while exploring as a child this Humber foreshore so steeped in history that I began to sketch and dream of becoming an artist.
