The Parameters of the Dark

By  Cat Bagg 2013
Working in collaboration with curator Rosie Thomson-Glover as part of The Dark Rooms, a project orchestrated by Jesse Leroy-Smith. I put together an exhibition which featuring works from current MA and BA students of Falmouth University. It was a fantastic opportunity to be involved with the Passmore Edwards Building in Redruth in it's period of transition and an invaluable chance for the students to show alongside practicing artists making the connections which will assist them in their professional practice. Their trajectories are mirroring the progress of this exciting new space, at a moment when anything is possible. As the function of the building fluctuates potential spaces and histories can be imagined, they flicker into existence like glitches in the formula of a place. It is these struggles in the dark 'inbetweens' where senses and perceptions can be altered and spaces of possibility are created. With this in mind we have brought together artists who share an alchemistic approach to articulating physical and emotional space. Tapping into parallel senses of nostalgia and anticipation inherent in the lineament of the building, the works in this exhibition oscillate between imagined pasts and projected futures. Drawing lines backwards and forwards through realities.
