(The) Play
(The) Play is an immersive, mixed media installation that invites the audience to step into the scene; walking among naive, hand-crafted props and playful costumes that suggest the remnants of a surreal theatrical performance. As viewers move through the space, they become accidental performers themselves, blurring the line between observer and participant.
The piece draws on my own auto-ethnographic experiences, as well as research into carnival traditions, Brechtian theatre, and the act of play. It questions the boundaries between performance and reality, and invites us to reflect on how we construct meaning through objects, space, and movement.
(The) Play was created for my MFA degree show in 2022.
