The Right & Freedom to a Home is a publication concerned with homelessness, the housing crisis and the right to a home. reflected in a hand bound zine detailing displacement, eviction and gentrification, solutions and hope is offered by campaigners & social activists. This cheaply, photocopied, pamphlet style publication, with screen printed cover, integrates traditional typesetting techniques into a contemporary publication. The publication connects with activist campaigns using social media, twitter & blogs, to capture and record the reaction and effects to social cleansing. The zine aims to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Europe and states the freedom to have a home is a human right. Stephen Pritchard, a PhD researcher at Northumbria University provides political clarity in his introduction, challenging the role of artists.
The publication for Beyond Words, was commissioned by the Freedom Festival Arts Trust and Hull Culture and Leisure Library Services, in association with Book Works. Funded by James Reckitt Library Trust.
