The River Next Door

By  Valerie Coffin Price 2013 - 2015

Kel Portman

A collaborative project between myself and poet Philip Gross, whose TS Eliot prize-winning collection The Water Table formed part of a previous installation, Estuary, in 2011. The River Next Door looks at a specific location in the heart of South Wales through two art forms, in national and international perspectives brought by two practitioners concerned with landscapes, journeys, groundedness in place and change. As well as creating a visual and poetic response to place both practitioners consider how to describe and render an intense, accurate sense of place - in this case a location that is both unexpected in its context and revealing of the making of this landscape and the life therein. The project will culminate in a series of solo exhibitions and a publication, 'A Fold in the River' by Seren Books, in 2015. 'The River Next Door' was funded by the Arts Council of Wales.
