The Temple

By  Robert Foster 2018
Enamel paint on clay tile, painted plaster columns and carved sandstone shard on glass shelf. "Each village had at least one temple. Large cities had many. The architecture of the temple strived to recreate the world at the time of formation. In the temple, the realm of the gods met briefly with that of the people. However, not everyone was allowed in. The temples were closed worlds with high walls" 'The Temple' appropriates a section of found museum text to consider the hierarchies that exist in relation to institutions of contemplation; be that places of worship or the contemporary art gallery.
