The Third Embrace

By  Paula Fenwick 2017
Collected ceramic footed bowl, synthetic hair, inherited wooden turnpin This work evokes ideas of an object being wrapped, embraced, cocooned. Objects can carry memory and keep stories. They contain loss and the notion of moving towards the unknown. The ceramic bowl is a Victorian hair receiver, used to collect brushed or discarded hair. The turnpin was my father’s – an object I have kept since childhood. The hair wrapped is a whisper of an embrace. Love and loss combined.
