Making Marks facilitated a series of creative and reminiscing workshops with hospital residents, users and staff. Students from the local school took part in the workshops & were encouraged (under guidance) to engage with the hospital residents suffering from differing degrees of memory loss.
The 32m pattern creates an abstract representation of a garden within the covered walkway which runs the length of the courtyard garden at the centre of the hospital & is a place where users, staff and visitors come for rest, recuperation, socialising and contemplation. Shotblast directly into the retaining wall the art- work reveals the coloured aggregate hidden beneath the surface of the concrete, bringing colour, texture and life into an otherwise stark and intimidating walkway.
