As the viewer walks around this monumental landmark sculpture, the powerful steel forms translate into the illusion of a Roman Amphora from two specific viewpoints. The work creates a symbolic link between modern Dunstable and its origins as an important centre for trade and travel 2000 years ago. The Amphora is the first known form of commercial packaging and fittingly the sculpture was funded by Asda Stores as the first piece on the town's Public Art Heritage Trail. The Dunstable Gazette reported: "Leisure Officers are delighted that the amphora has become such a talking point for the town. Good art encourages all the community, including young people, and this piece certainly seems to have achieved that."
