2021, woodcut monoprint on vintage wallpaper, 30x40cm

We discovered this vintage wallpaper behind the seventies kitchen units when renovating my son's house. The design transported me to my childhood and I reminisced about the abundant birdlife I used to see around my village, which is now almost all gone. I made four woodcut prints onto remnants of the wallpaper to mark my sense of loss. The four title birds have all sufferered catastrophic declines in their breeding populations in my lifeltime. They are:

Lesser Spotted Woodpecker
Turtle Dove
Spotted Flycatcher
