Troedrhiwsebon

By  Alice Forward 2015
TROEDRHIWSEBON, which literally translates into English as “FootSlopeSoap”, is a farm named after it’s Welsh medieval vernacular long house, traditionally built at the foot of a slope. It nestles in the upper reaches of the Rheidol Valley, just a few miles from the spectacular Ceredigion coast, and, despite it’s mining history, is possibly the most beautiful in all of west Wales. The farm comprises over two acres of ancient deciduous wood land, half a mile of Rheidol River fishing rights, and sixteen acres of pasture still farmed using old methods that have all but disappeared in agriculture today. Dai and Nancy Jones, who are in their late seventies, will continue to rear sheep on the land as long as they both want and are able, but, as of February 2015, Short&Forward are the new incumbents at Troedrhiwsebon. The plan is to launch a new international and sustainable artists residency program on the farm within the next twelve to fifteen months. In the meantime, there is a massive amount of work to be done, some of which includes: - designing and building a web-site - preparing the studio/workshops (which involves renovating the old stone cowshed and extending/rebuilding the corrugated iron barn) - constructing of tree-houses - clearing land and building dry stone walls to establish an organic kitchen garden - rejuvenating, and in places replanting, much of the ancient hedgerows If you think you might be interested in contributing your time, skill and/or labour to the venture in return for free board and lodging in these idyllically bucolic surroundings, please write a Letter of Interest to Alice and Louise at foot.slope.soap@gmail.com or Short&Forward Troedrhiwsebon Cwmrheidol Aberystwyth Ceredigion SY23 3NB Transport to and from Aberystwyth train station can be arranged.
