Twig

By  Phil Lambert 2018
We have a couple of apple trees near by where I live. Thy are lovely old and knarly apple trees covered in moss. Every year I have to go up into them and cut out the new growth, but last year I pruned back some of the old growth to allow more air and light into the branches. What resulted was a collection of Bonsai like twigs, full of character and exquisitely beautiful. At the same time I was also experimenting with refining clay from the ground around the trees and using this as a pigment for oil paints. Painting a picture of the twigs in the mud that they grew from was the obvious thing to do.
