Tynygraig: Colin Howkins

By  Peter Grego 2023
Curated in collaboration with Aberystwyth Arts Centre. This exhibition, features paintings by Colin Howkins who lived and worked at Tynygraig, near Tregaron, on and off, for over 50 years. Colin Howkins spent his working life as a teacher in the West Midlands before retiring to work full-time in his Tynygraig studio. Here, he produced paintings indicating his strong affinity with the landscape of mid-Wales. Early works display an urban sensibility influenced by abstract expressionism but later, in Wales, his paintings changed dramatically, reflecting an interest in the local landscape of Ceredigion. His work is in several national collections including, Warwick Arts Trust, London, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Worcester City Museum.
