Urban Romanticism
Urban romanticism considers our relationship with the natural world in urban, suburban and domestic spaces. It’s a series of maps, photographs and films, that are simultaneously melancholic and optimistic in there thinking about a new way of coexisting with nature in urban areas.
The maps, visualise a change to our cities biodiversity through the implementation of Urban Wildlife Zones. These are designated zones similar to Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. They have special significance in which nature is a priority and is proactively considered in decisions made by the people and councils that govern these areas. Urban Wildlife Zones are identified by their own communities. Encouraged and supported by government, but brought about and grown by residents. The flora and fauna in these areas is increased and protected, raising our awareness and connection with it . The perception of nature as not something we go and visit or look at through a screen, but a world we understand and are part of is of particular importance in places with the most concentration of people.
