Public Art Commission as part of the Beacon Quay Redevelopment Scheme, Torquay, Devon. The commission consisted of a 7M diameter steel ring (above), Morse Code floor lighting (60 metres in length) along the promenade, a light cross in the floor and lighting in a glass tower (below). Beacon Quay was used as an embarkation point by the US Army for the D-Day Landings. Some 200,000 soldiers departed from the two `D-Day slipways’. The ring is placed between these slipways acting as a symbolic gateway or departure point.
