VAS-VESSEL

The notion of a 'vessel' is well defined... both as 'conduit' and as 'container'.
Artefacts of ancient settlements prompts the idea of the 'found object' as a corporeal body that channels residual fragments of embedded identity: The Romano-British finds (pots, amphorae, jewellery, hairpins, figurines, tools, coins etc) on and near the site of this new carving entail full volumes and curvilinear rhythms. The latter offers the sculptural potential to exploit the visual power and conceptual relevance of precision cut and polished granite; the material properties of an enduring geology.
