Vessels I

By Deborah Gardner 2012
This work was made as part of a unique commission by Rednile and Burslem Port Trust Regeneration project in Stoke. The cups and saucers and plates originally were made in neighbouring potteries to the Burslem Port Canal Branch. As a push to raise awareness of this site and proposed regeneration, projects, a set of sculptures were commissioned to raise awareness of an industrial legacy, which was originally provided with materials and transport from the canals. The chinaware is submerged in clear resin much like the submerged canal boats and allude to ways in which we remember a place.
