Rites of Passage
By Bernard Charnley | 2025Quarry Swimming series, 2024 - 2025 by Catherine Knight
This project is a year long work in progress project documenting my weekly swims in a local quarry. I have been photographing and taking accidental video footage as I swim around the quarry each week and painting a series of paintings from both above the water line and below. I am documenting the changing light and seasons in terms of water and foliage colour. I have been thinking about the “above” and “below” as representing our inner and outer presentations of self in terms of our mental health.
