soft encounters, 2024 - 2026 by natalia dominika janula

This research offers a distinctive, practice-led inquiry into the hybrid, queer, and magical potentials of everyday objects (Deleuze & Guattari, 1987; Grosz, 1994). By producing objects that misbehave, resist functionality, and blend natural, industrial, and speculative elements, the project advances understandings of material agency, posthumanist and feminist objecthood, and speculative practice (Bennett, 2010; Haraway, 2016; Moten & Harney, 2013). Drawing on the Body without Organs as a conceptual lens, the research explores objects and assemblages as sites of potentiality and relationality, resisting fixed hierarchies and functional determinism.

Unruly Element, 2026 by Penny Hallas

Created for @tactileBOSCH 's 25th anniversary programme, 'Fist Inside the Velvet Glove'.

‘Unruly Element’ is an installation comprising projection/moving-image and equine skeletal remains, linking environmental, psychological and mythical forces, channelling ideas of damage and transformation. Deep at the heart of ritual, myth, celebration and mourning, fire invades spaces beyond predictable boundaries. Protean in nature, both a signifier for the comforts of home, domesticity and companionship and a raging destructive force devouring everything in its path.

In 2013 Kim Fielding sent out photos of the destruction by fire of the Old Laundry, former home of tactileBOSCH. I’ve combined his images with footage of fires witnessed in-and-around Llangatwg, Powys and (referencing the Chinese Year of the Horse) the semi-wild ponies that live and die on the mountain, whose skeletal remains can be found in the grass. Horribly, since planning this work in Spring, fires have swept the land.

For this part of the celebrations, tactileBOSCH are ‘taking over the upper floors of The Morgan Arcade for three days of live performance, installation, cinema, sound, radio, walking and archival encounters.’ Thursday 15 Oct 2026 14:00 through to Saturday 17 Oct 2026 22:00.
