Crudities, 2025 by Fliss Quick
These collages were made in response to a rapidly appearing ‘Everything is Collage’ exhibition deadline. These works (Crudities) were made as ‘me' rather than in character as ’Joyce'. At the point of making this work, I was starting to question the distinction between the two of us, I was relieved and mildly surprised to discover this was clearly the case. Joyce however did insist I used the teatowels to hang this work.
In the 'Everything is Collage' exhibition, both Joyce and I showed our work together and collectively these works can be seen as a conversation between she and I: Counterpoints to one another. It is, I'm sure, no coincidence that we both work with themes of domesticity.
Crudities

I returned to model making during my 2 yr MA. Scale models have become useful tools as well as sculptural objects and uncanny entities. While the object is recognisable visually retaining its functionality and role, the reworking of the object and displacing it questions its functionality and renders it strange. The scale model allows me to change and manipulate an existing domestic space and reimagine the space and objects within. The ongoing work continues to challenge the function of the scale model by considering it as a sculptural object.
