Everything you need to know about joining Axis, choosing a membership level and how membership works.
Joining
How do I join Axis?
You can join online by choosing a membership level and payment plan. Payment is available monthly or annually, using Direct Debit or a Credit/Debit Card.
Who is membership for?
Axis is for artists, including makers and others working across visual art.
You can join at any stage of your practice.
What do you mean by visual art?
We use this broadly to include a wide range of practices, including painting, sculpture, craft, digital work, social, installation and performance.
If your work sits within visual art, there is a place for you at Axis.
Can I change my membership later?
Yes. You can upgrade your membership at any time.
Membership levels
What’s included in each membership level?
Each level offers different types of support, from access to opportunities and community through to insurance, funding and development.
Professional membership
Do I need to apply for Professional membership?
Yes. Professional membership is by application or nomination.
What are the criteria for Professional membership?
You can view the criteria and apply here.
Can I apply after joining as an Associate?
Yes. You can apply for Professional membership at any time.
Insurance
What insurance is included?
Associate and Professional memberships include:
- Public and Product Liability: Up to £10 million, with a £250 excess, covering the UK and European Union.
- Professional Indemnity: Up to £5 million, with a £250 excess, covering worldwide (excluding USA and Canada).

How do I activate insurance?
Insurance is not automatic. You will need to activate your cover.

Is there a minimum term if I use the insurance?
Yes. If you activate insurance, a one year minimum term applies.
Payments and account
Does my membership renew automatically?
Yes. Membership renews automatically unless you cancel.
How do I cancel my membership?
You can cancel through your account settings or by contacting support@axisweb.org.
Can I get a refund?
You can request a refund within 14 days of purchase. After this, refunds are at our discretion.
How do I update my details?
You can update your details at any time in your account.
Concessions and support
Do you offer concessionary rates?
Yes. Concessionary rates are available if cost is a barrier.
What if I’m an existing member and my circumstances change?
We can offer support such as payment holidays or discounts. Contact us to discuss your situation.
Professional members
Can I include Axis in a funding application?
Professional members can cite Axis as in kind support after six months of membership.
