Membership FAQs

Everything you need to know about joining Axis, choosing a membership level and how membership works.

Joining

How do I Join Axis?

You join online. Choose a membership level, then pay monthly or annually by Direct Debit or card.

Is Axis for me?

If you work in contemporary visual art, yes. That includes painting, sculpture, photography, film and video, printmaking, textiles, craft, illustration, sound, digital work, installation, performance, and socially engaged and participatory practice.

It also includes the people who make that work happen: curators, technicians, art handlers, producers and educators.

You can join at any stage of your practice, whether you are still studying, just out, or thirty years in.

Can I join as a group?

Artist collectives or shared studios with 5 or more members can apply together for discounted rates. Find out about group membership

Membership levels

What's included in each level?

Associate includes insurance, opportunities, resources and the community. Professional adds visibility, development support and access to bursaries and fellowships. Guest is free and lets you attend our public events and receive our news. See full membership options.

Can I change my membership later?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time in your account.

Professional membership

Do I need to apply?

Yes. Professional membership is by application or nomination.

What are the criteria?

View the criteria and apply here.

Can I apply after joining as an Associate?

Yes, at any time.

Can I cite Axis in a funding application?

Professional members can cite Axis as in-kind support after six months of membership. The wording and instructions are in the Professional Members space in the Community Hub.

Insurance

What insurance is included?

Associate and Professional memberships include public and products liability up to £15 million, and professional indemnity up to £5 million. Each carries a £250 excess. For full details, go here.

When does cover start?

The day you join, whichever way you pay.

How do I get my certificate?

Download it from your account as soon as you join, and send it on to whoever has asked for it. It evidences the full £15 million.

Who can be insured?

Members based in the UK, or with a permanent UK address.

How long does cover last?

Insurance is a benefit of membership, so cover runs for as long as your membership does.

Is there a minimum term?

If you make a claim, your membership runs for a minimum of twelve months. You can still pay monthly.

Payments and account

Does my membership renew automatically?

Yes, unless you cancel.

How do I cancel?

Through your account settings, or by contacting support@axisweb.org.

Can I get a refund?

Request one within 14 days of purchase by emailing support@axisweb.org. After that, refunds are at our discretion.

How do I update my details?

In your account, at any time.

How do I delete my account?

Complete our Account Deletion Request form.

Concessions and support

Do you offer concessionary rates?

Yes, if cost is a barrier. This may include artists on a low income or unwaged, experiencing financial difficulty, early in their practice, or returning to practice after a long-term break, including caring responsibilities or ill health.

We offer this on trust, so support reaches those who need it. You will not be asked for proof. Email hello@axisweb.org with a short note about your situation and we will suggest the right option. More about concessionary rates.

My circumstances have changed. Can you help?

Yes. We can offer payment holidays or a reduced rate. Contact us and we will find something that works.

Organising an event

Can Axis support the artists exhibiting with me?

Yes. We offer a 10% discount for artists exhibiting at partner events, along with materials you can hand out and wording for your application form or exhibitor pack. Support your artists with Axis.
